Fret wrap “The Rascal”: The Fretboard Cuddlies invite themselves onto your guitar
A wrong note? The Rascal saw nothing… well, almost.
The Rascal is the prankster of the group. He always looks like he’s planned a mischievous trick… and he keeps your open strings well-behaved while you play.
What is a fret wrap for?
A fret wrap, or string muter, is placed around the neck, just behind the playing area. It prevents unplayed strings from vibrating: no more unwanted resonances, undesirable harmonics, and open string noise. It’s a valuable ally for fast solos, legato, tapping, bass parts, and especially recording, where every parasitic noise can be heard.
Two sizes depending on your instrument
- Short – 18 cm (plush part approx. 6.5 cm): electric guitar, acoustic guitar, 4-string bass, and ukulele.
- Long – 21 cm (plush part approx. 7 cm): classical guitar, 5 or 6-string bass, 7 or 8-string guitar, for wider necks.
The lengths are measured by hand: a slight variation is possible from one piece to another.
Installation in seconds
Slide the strap around the neck, pass it through the loop, then close the velcro to the desired tension. Placed against the nut, “The Rascal” mutes open strings; when you no longer need it, simply slide it towards the guitar headstock.
The whole gang of the Fretboard Cuddlies
There are four Fretboard Cuddlies: “The Rascal” red, “The Whiner” pink, “The Dumbstruck” yellow, and “The Unimpressed” blue. Enough to choose the one that best matches your mood… or that of your favorite guitarist.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
What is a fret wrap for?
It mutes unplayed strings to eliminate unwanted resonances and open string noise. It is particularly useful for fast solos, legato, tapping, and recording.
Which size should I choose?
The short one (18 cm) is suitable for electric guitar, acoustic guitar, 4-string bass, and ukulele. The long one (21 cm) is designed for wider necks: classical guitar, 5 or 6-string bass, 7 or 8-string guitar.
How do I install the fret wrap?
Pass the strap around the neck, slide it through the loop, then close the velcro to the desired tension. Installation takes a few seconds and requires no tools.
Can I leave it on when not in use?
Yes. Simply slide it towards the headstock of the guitar, beyond the nut: it no longer touches the played strings and remains within reach for the next session.
Is the fret wrap likely to damage the neck?
The part in contact with the strings is made of soft plush, and the strap adjusts without forcing. Just be careful not to overtighten the velcro and remove it before storing the guitar in a very tight case.
Are there other characters?
Yes, the Fretboard Cuddlies series includes four characters: “The Rascal” red, “The Whiner” pink, “The Dumbstruck” yellow, and “The Unimpressed” blue. Each has its own product page, in short or long size.
Is this a good gift idea for a guitarist?
Yes: it’s a truly useful everyday accessory, and its plush face is sure to bring a smile, whether to a beginner or an experienced musician.
